The Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010

Are You Aware Of The Sunbeds Act 2010

Whenever we get to the tail end of winter our thoughts think of last years sun tan and nice tanned bodies resulting from a nice holiday in the sun. Lets be honest the weather in Lincoln does not often give you that sun kissed Mediterranean tan. So what are the alternatives to getting that nice tan in Lincoln.

Of course there are the latest sunbeds and tanning salons in Lincoln but the fact is there is still a chance of getting skin cancer despite what they tell you.

The Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010 is there to protect under 18s from putting their health at risk using sunbeds.

It is well known that over-exposure to the UV rays has become the main cause of skin cancer these days. Most people know the dangers of using sunbeds despite this but still the demand for the artificial tanning industry keeps on growing as everyone wants to look nicely tanned.

Cancer Research in the UK launched their 2011 SunSmart campaign last year, which highlighted that every day two people under 35 are diagnosed with skin cancer. I was found that on average, approximately six per cent of 11-17 year olds in England were use sunbeds with a further 50 per cent of 15-17 year-old girls in Liverpool and Sunderland using them. The medical profession believe they will see an increased incidence of skin cancers in these age groups resulting from their use of sunbeds.

The Act will prevent under 18 year olds from:

  • being allowed to use tanning salons and sunbeds at premises including beauty salons, leisure centres, gyms and hotels;

  • being offered the use of a sunbed; and

  • being allowed to be in an area that is reserved for sunbed users.

Each Local Authorities will be responsible for enforcing the Act by inspecting businesses and premises to make sure they are complying with the new regulations.

Spray tanning is a safer alternative you should really consider so please give me a call I will be pleased to assist you anyway I can.
